Step-by-Step Guide

1. Prepare the Workspace:

Place a bucket or bowl under the drain to catch any water or debris. Open the faucet to run a small stream of water while you work to help lubricate the drain.

2. Remove the Stopper:

Most sink plugs are held in place by a screw or bolt. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen and remove the screw or bolt. If there is no screw, the stopper may be simply pressed into place. You can use a screwdriver to pry it out gently.

3. Disconnect the Lift Rod:

If your drain plug has a lift rod connected to it, you will need to disconnect it. Locate the lift rod, which is usually a thin metal rod that runs up from the drain plug to a lever on the sink. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut or screw that connects the lift rod to the drain plug. It is important to support the lift rod while loosening the nut or screw to prevent it from falling into the drain.

4. Remove the Drain Plug:

Once the lift rod is disconnected, you should be able to simply lift the drain plug out of the drain. If the plug is stuck, you can try using a pair of pliers or a pipe wrench to remove it.

5. Inspect and Clean:

Inspect the drain plug and the drain opening for any obstructions or damage. If there is any debris, remove it. You can also use a drain cleaner to remove any build-up or clogs.

6. Reinstall the Drain Plug:

If you are reusing the old drain plug, simply insert it back into the drain opening. If you are installing a new drain plug, make sure it is the correct size and type for your sink. Insert the drain plug into the opening and tighten the screw or bolt to secure it.

7. Reconnect the Lift Rod:
