How to Remove and Replace a Bathroom Vanity

Remodeling your bathroom can be a daunting task, but replacing a vanity doesn't have to be. With a little planning and some basic tools, you can remove and replace your old vanity in a few hours. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Step 1: Gather your tools and materials

Before you start, make sure you have all the tools and materials you'll need. You'll need:

  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • Wrench or adjustable pliers
  • Caulk gun and caulk
  • Level
  • New vanity
  • Sink
  • Faucet
  • Vanity top (if necessary)

Step 2: Turn off the water supply

Before you start removing the vanity, turn off the water supply to the bathroom. You'll find the shutoff valves under the sink. Turn the valves clockwise to close them.

Step 3: Disconnect the plumbing

Once the water supply is turned off, you can start disconnecting the plumbing. Disconnect the water supply lines from the sink and the drain pipe from the vanity. Use a wrench or adjustable pliers to loosen the nuts and bolts.

Step 4: Remove the vanity

Once the plumbing is disconnected, you can remove the vanity. Start by removing the doors and drawers. Then, remove the screws that are holding the vanity to the wall. Carefully lift the vanity off the floor and set it aside.

Step 5: Install the new vanity

Place the new vanity in the desired location and level it using a level. Secure the vanity to the wall with screws. Once the vanity is secure, you can reconnect the plumbing.

Step 6: Install the sink and faucet

Place the sink on the vanity top and secure it with the included hardware. Install the faucet according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 7: Caulk around the sink and vanity

Apply a bead of caulk around the sink and vanity to seal any gaps. Smooth the caulk with your finger or a caulking tool.

Step 8: Finish up

Once the caulk is dry, you can turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, you're finished! Enjoy your new bathroom vanity.
