How to Remove a Kohler Bathroom Sink Faucet Handle

If your Kohler bathroom sink faucet handle is dripping or loose, you may need to remove it to replace the cartridge or tighten the handle. Removing a Kohler faucet handle is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes with the right tools.

Tools You'll Need:

Phillips head screwdriver
Adjustable wrench
Faucet handle puller tool (optional)

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

Before you begin working on the faucet, turn off the water supply to the sink. There will be two shut-off valves underneath the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to close them.

Step 2: Remove the Escutcheon Plate

The escutcheon plate is the decorative cover that surrounds the base of the faucet handle. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the escutcheon plate in place. Once the screws are removed, lift off the escutcheon plate.

Step 3: Remove the Handle Screw

Underneath the escutcheon plate, you will see a screw that holds the faucet handle in place. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw. If the screw is tight, you can use an adjustable wrench to help you loosen it.

Step 4: Pull Off the Handle

Once the screw is removed, you can pull the faucet handle straight off the faucet stem. If the handle is stuck, you can use a faucet handle puller tool to help you remove it.

Step 5: Inspect the Cartridge

Once the handle is removed, you will see the cartridge. The cartridge is the part that controls the flow of water through the faucet.

Step 6: Reinstall the Cartridge

If the cartridge needs to be replaced, follow the instructions included with the new cartridge to reinstall it.

Step 7: Reassemble the Faucet

Once the cartridge is installed, you can reassemble the faucet. Start by placing the faucet handle back on the faucet stem. Then, secure the handle with the screw. Finally, replace the escutcheon plate and secure it with the screws.
