How to Remove the Drain in a Bathroom Sink

Bathroom sink drains are essential for keeping your sink functioning properly. They allow water to drain away and prevent clogs. Over time, these drains can become clogged with hair, soap scum, and other debris. If your sink is not draining properly, you may need to remove the drain and clean it.

Removing a bathroom sink drain is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. Here are the steps on how to do it:

Step 1: Gather your tools

You will need the following tools to remove a bathroom sink drain:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Pliers
  • Bucket
  • Rags or paper towels

Step 2: Turn off the water supply

Before you begin, turn off the water supply to the sink. This will prevent water from leaking out when you remove the drain.

Step 3: Place a bucket under the sink

Place a bucket under the sink to catch any water that may leak out when you remove the drain.

Step 4: Loosen the drain stopper

Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the drain stopper. Turn the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the stopper.

Step 5: Remove the drain stopper

Once the drain stopper is loose, you can remove it by hand. Pull the stopper up and out of the drain.

Step 6: Remove the drain body

Use pliers to loosen the drain body. Turn the pliers counterclockwise to loosen the body.

Step 7: Lift the drain body out of the sink

Once the drain body is loose, you can lift it out of the sink. Be careful not to spill any water that may be trapped in the body.

Step 8: Clean the drain

Use a rag or paper towels to clean the drain. Remove any hair, soap scum, or other debris that may be clogging the drain.

Step 9: Reinstall the drain

To reinstall the drain, simply reverse the steps you took to remove it. First, insert the drain body into the sink. Then, tighten the drain body using pliers. Finally, replace the drain stopper and tighten it using an adjustable wrench.

Step 10: Turn on the water supply

Once the drain is reinstalled, turn on the water supply to the sink. Check for leaks and make sure that the drain is draining properly.
