Smallest ADA Bathroom Dimensions
In order to ensure that bathrooms are accessible to people with disabilities, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has established minimum space requirements for these rooms. These requirements apply to both public and commercial bathrooms, as well as to bathrooms in private homes that are intended to be used by people with disabilities.
The smallest ADA bathroom dimensions are as follows:
- Width: 5 feet
- Depth: 6 feet
- Ceiling height: 8 feet
In addition to these minimum dimensions, the ADA also requires that bathrooms have the following features:
- A toilet with a grab bar
- A sink with a lever handle
- A mirror that is at least 42 inches high and 36 inches wide
- A shower with a grab bar and a seat
- A door that is at least 32 inches wide
It is important to note that these are just the minimum requirements for ADA bathrooms. Many bathrooms will be larger than these dimensions in order to accommodate additional features, such as a bathtub, a vanity, or a linen closet.
If you are planning to build or remodel a bathroom, it is important to consult with a qualified architect or contractor to ensure that the bathroom meets all of the ADA requirements. This will help to ensure that the bathroom is accessible to people with disabilities and that it complies with the law.
