How to Disassemble a Delta Bathroom Faucet

If your bathroom faucet is leaking, dripping, or otherwise malfunctioning, you may need to take it apart to fix it. While this may seem like a daunting task, it is actually quite simple, especially if you have the right tools. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to disassemble a Delta bathroom faucet.

Materials You Will Need

  • Adjustable wrench or pliers
  • Phillips or flat-head screwdriver
  • Allen wrench (optional)
  • Faucet repair kit (optional)

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

Before you begin, turn off the water supply to the faucet. This is usually done by turning off the valves underneath the sink. If there are no valves, you will need to turn off the main water supply to your home.

Step 2: Remove the Aerator

The aerator is the small, mesh screen that is attached to the end of the faucet. To remove it, unscrew it counterclockwise using your fingers or pliers.

Step 3: Remove the Handle

The handle is usually held in place by a screw. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the handle straight up to remove it.

Step 4: Remove the Cartridge

The cartridge is the heart of the faucet. It controls the flow of water and temperature. To remove the cartridge, use an adjustable wrench or pliers to loosen the nut that holds it in place. Once the nut is loose, you can pull the cartridge straight out.

Step 5: Inspect the Cartridge

Once you have removed the cartridge, inspect it for any signs of damage or wear. If the cartridge is damaged, you will need to replace it with a new one.

Step 6: Reassemble the Faucet

To reassemble the faucet, simply reverse the steps you took to disassemble it. Be sure to tighten all of the nuts and screws securely.

Tips

  • If you are having difficulty removing the cartridge, you can use a pair of pliers to grip it.
  • Be careful not to overtighten the nuts and screws when reassembling the faucet.
  • If you are replacing the cartridge, be sure to use a new O-ring.

With a little time and effort, you can easily disassemble and reassemble a Delta bathroom faucet. By following these steps, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber.
