How to Fix a Leaky Faucet in the Bathroom Sink

A leaky faucet is a common household problem that can be easily fixed with a few simple tools. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to fix a leaky faucet in the bathroom sink:

Tools you'll need:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement washer (if needed)

Steps:

1. Turn off the water supply

The first step is to turn off the water supply to the sink. There should be two shut-off valves located under the sink. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.

2. Remove the faucet handle

Once the water is turned off, remove the faucet handle. There is usually a small screw holding the handle in place. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull off the handle.

3. Remove the packing nut

Under the faucet handle, you'll see a packing nut. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut by turning it counterclockwise. Be careful not to overtighten the packing nut, or you could damage the faucet.

4. Inspect the washer

Once the packing nut is removed, you'll see the washer. Inspect the washer for any signs of damage or wear. If the washer is damaged, it will need to be replaced.

5. Replace the washer (if needed)

If the washer is damaged, it will need to be replaced. To replace the washer, simply remove the old washer and insert the new washer into the faucet. Make sure that the new washer is the same size and type as the old washer.

6. Reinstall the packing nut

Once the washer is replaced, reinstall the packing nut. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the packing nut by turning it clockwise. Again, be careful not to overtighten the packing nut.

7. Reinstall the faucet handle

Once the packing nut is tightened, reinstall the faucet handle. Insert the handle into the faucet and tighten the screw to secure it in place.

8. Turn on the water supply

Once the faucet handle is reinstalled, turn on the water supply to the sink. Check for any leaks and make sure that the faucet is working properly.
