Before attempting to remove the drain, prepare the area by clearing away any obstructions and placing a bucket or basin beneath the sink to catch any water that may leak. Cover the drain opening with a cloth or plug to prevent small parts from falling into the drainpipe.

Locate the drain nut, which is typically positioned at the base of the drain assembly. Position the wrench's jaws over the nut, ensuring a tight and secure fit. Apply counterclockwise pressure to loosen the nut. Avoid excessive force, as this could damage the drain assembly.

Once the nut is loosened, carefully remove it by hand. The drain assembly should now be free to detach from the sink. Grip the drain assembly firmly and pull it straight up to disengage it from the drainpipe. If the drain is particularly stubborn, gently wiggle it back and forth while pulling to break it loose.

With the drain assembly removed, you can proceed with unclogging or replacing the drain. Once the issue is resolved, reattaching the drain assembly is simply a matter of reversing the removal process. Align the drain assembly with the drainpipe and push it down until it fits snugly. Hand-tighten the drain nut by turning it clockwise until it is secure but not overly tight.

Finally, check for any leaks by running water into the sink. If you encounter any dripping, further tighten the drain nut. Remember to clean up any debris or water that may have accumulated during the process.
