How To Clean Pop Up Drain In Bathroom Sink

Pop-up drains are a convenient feature in bathroom sinks, but they can also be a breeding ground for bacteria and grime. If your pop-up drain is starting to smell or clog, it's time to give it a good cleaning. Here's how to do it:

Materials you'll need:

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Old toothbrush or pipe cleaner
  • Plunger
  • Wrench

Instructions:

  1. Remove the drain stopper. Most pop-up drains have a small cap or stopper that can be removed by hand. If the stopper is stuck, you may need to use a wrench to loosen it.
  2. Pour white vinegar down the drain. White vinegar is a natural disinfectant and cleaner. Pour about 1/2 cup of white vinegar down the drain and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle baking soda down the drain. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer and cleaner. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of baking soda down the drain and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  4. Scrub the drain with an old toothbrush or pipe cleaner. Use an old toothbrush or pipe cleaner to scrub the inside of the drain. This will help to remove any buildup of soap scum, hair, or other debris.
  5. Rinse the drain with hot water. Rinse the drain with hot water to remove any remaining vinegar or baking soda. Be sure to run the water for several minutes to make sure that all of the cleaner has been flushed out.
  6. Plunge the drain. If the drain is still clogged, you can try plunging it. Place the plunger over the drain and plunge up and down several times. This will help to dislodge any clogs.
  7. Remove and clean the drain assembly. If the drain is still clogged, you may need to remove and clean the drain assembly. To do this, use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the drain assembly in place. Once the nut is loose, you can remove the drain assembly and clean it with vinegar and baking soda.

Tips:

  • Clean your pop-up drain regularly to prevent clogs and bacteria buildup.
  • If your pop-up drain is frequently clogged, you may need to replace it with a new one.
  • Never use harsh chemicals to clean your pop-up drain. These chemicals can damage the drain and cause leaks.
