How to Fix Bathroom Sink Drain Leaks

A leaky bathroom sink drain can be a major annoyance, wasting water and potentially causing damage to your bathroom floor. Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you start, you'll need to gather a few tools, including:

A bucket or bowl
A wrench
A pair of pliers
A flashlight

Step 2: Turn Off the Water

Once you have your tools, the first step is to turn off the water supply to your sink. This is typically done by turning off the shut-off valves located under the sink. If you can't find the shut-off valves, you can turn off the main water supply to your home.

Step 3: Remove the Drain Stopper

Next, you'll need to remove the drain stopper. This is usually done by simply unscrewing it by hand. If the drain stopper is stuck, you can use a pair of pliers to loosen it.

Step 4: Inspect the Drain Assembly

Once the drain stopper is removed, you'll be able to see the drain assembly. The drain assembly consists of a metal or plastic drainpipe, a rubber washer, and a metal flange. Inspect the drain assembly for any signs of damage or wear. If you see any cracks or breaks, you'll need to replace the drain assembly.

Step 5: Clean the Drain Assembly

If the drain assembly is not damaged, you can simply clean it to fix the leak. To do this, use a flashlight to look down the drainpipe and remove any debris that may be blocking the flow of water. You can also use a pipe cleaner to clean the inside of the drainpipe.

Step 6: Reinstall the Drain Assembly

Once the drain assembly is clean, you can reinstall it. To do this, simply insert the drainpipe into the drain hole and tighten the metal flange. Be sure to use a rubber washer to create a watertight seal.

Step 7: Turn on the Water

Once the drain assembly is reinstalled, you can turn on the water supply to your sink. Check for leaks around the drain assembly. If you see any leaks, you may need to tighten the metal flange further.
