How to Install a Delta Centerset Bathroom Faucet

Installing a Delta centerset bathroom faucet is a relatively straightforward plumbing project that most homeowners can tackle themselves. This type of faucet, featuring a single handle that controls both hot and cold water, is a popular choice for traditional bathrooms. This article will guide you through the process, providing step-by-step instructions and helpful tips to ensure a successful installation.

1. Gathering Tools and Materials

Before beginning, gather the necessary tools and materials. You will need:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Channel-lock pliers
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Crescent wrench
  • Plumber's tape (Teflon tape)
  • New Delta centerset bathroom faucet
  • New faucet supply lines (if necessary)
  • Optional: Faucet installation tool

Ensure you have all required parts and tools before you start the installation process.

2. Shutting Off the Water Supply and Draining the System

Before disassembling the old faucet, shut off the water supply to the sink. Typically, the valves controlling the water supply are located beneath the sink or on the wall nearby. Turn the valves clockwise until they are completely shut off. To release any remaining water pressure in the lines, open the faucet handle and let the water drain completely.

3. Disassembling the Old Faucet

Once the water is off and drained, you can begin removing the old faucet.

  1. Unscrew the decorative caps or escutcheons that cover the faucet mounting holes.
  2. Use a wrench or pliers to loosen and remove the nuts securing the faucet to the sink.
  3. Disconnect the hot and cold water supply lines from the faucet.
  4. Remove the old faucet from the sink.

Set aside the old faucet and its parts for disposal. Inspect the mounting holes in the sink to ensure they are clean and free of any debris.

4. Installing the New Faucet

Now, you can begin installing the new Delta centerset bathroom faucet.

  1. Prepare the Supply Lines: If you are using new supply lines, wrap the threads with plumber's tape to prevent leaks.
  2. Attach the Faucet to the Sink: Position the new faucet over the sink's mounting holes and insert the faucet body through the holes. Place the mounting nuts from below the sink and hand-tighten them. Use a wrench to tighten the nuts securely, ensuring the faucet is level and centered.
  3. Connect the Supply Lines: Connect the supply lines to the faucet. For Delta centerset faucets, the supply lines are typically connected to the faucet body using threaded connections. Tighten the connections firmly with a wrench.
  4. Connect the Drain: Connect the drain assembly to the faucet body. The drain assembly typically consists of a pop-up drain stopper and a strainer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for connecting the drain.
  5. Install the Escutcheons: Place the decorative caps or escutcheons over the faucet mounting holes and tighten them securely.

5. Testing for Leaks and Finishing Up

Before you turn the water back on, carefully check all connections for leaks. Once you are satisfied with the installation, turn the water supply valves back on slowly, starting with the cold water line.

Once the water supply is turned on, check for any leaks, and tighten any loose connections if necessary. Test the hot and cold water flow to ensure the faucet operates correctly.

Ensure the drain is working properly, and enjoy your newly installed Delta centerset bathroom faucet.
