How to Install PEX Pipe Under a Bathroom Sink

Installing PEX pipe under a bathroom sink is a relatively simple plumbing task that can be completed in just a few hours. PEX, or cross-linked polyethylene, is a type of plastic pipe that is flexible and easy to work with. PEX pipe
PEX fittings

Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply to the sink.

Locate the shut-off valves under the sink and turn them off. If there are no shut-off valves, you will need to turn off the main water supply to the house.

2. Disconnect the old pipes.

Using a wrench, loosen the nuts that connect the old pipes to the faucet and the water supply lines. Remove the old pipes and discard them.

3. Cut the PEX pipe to length.

Measure the distance between the faucet and the water supply lines. Cut the PEX pipe to this length using a PEX cutter.

4. Insert the PEX pipe into the fittings.

Push the end of the PEX pipe into one of the PEX fittings. Make sure that the pipe is fully inserted into the fitting.

5. Crimp the fitting.

Use a PEX crimp tool to crimp the fitting onto the PEX pipe. Make sure that the crimp is tight and secure.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other end of the PEX pipe.

Insert the other end of the PEX pipe into the other PEX fitting and crimp it on.

7. Connect the PEX pipe to the faucet and the water supply lines.

Use a wrench to tighten the nuts that connect the PEX pipe to the faucet and the water supply lines.

8. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.

Turn on the shut-off valves under the sink (or the main water supply to the house) and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the nuts or fittings until the leak stops.

Tips

If you are having trouble inserting the PEX pipe into the fitting, you can use a lubricant to help it slide in.
Make sure that the crimp on the fitting is tight and secure. If the crimp is not tight enough, the fitting could leak.
