How To Remove Old Broan Bathroom Fan

Replacing an old Broan bathroom fan can be a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours. However, before you begin, it is important to gather the necessary tools and materials and to follow the steps carefully to avoid any damage to your bathroom or the fan.

Tools and Materials You Will Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Wire cutters
  • Electrical tape
  • New Broan bathroom fan

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Turn off the power to the bathroom fan. This can be done by turning off the circuit breaker or fuse that powers the fan. Once the power is off, remove the cover plate from the fan.

2. Disconnect the wires from the fan. There will be two wires connected to the fan, a black wire and a white wire. Use a wire cutter to cut the wires about 6 inches from the fan. Once the wires are cut, remove the wire nuts from the wires.

3. Remove the mounting screws. There will be four screws that hold the fan in place. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws.

4. Pull the fan out of the housing. Once the screws are removed, you should be able to pull the fan out of the housing. Be careful not to damage the housing.

5. Install the new fan. Place the new fan into the housing and line up the mounting holes. Insert the mounting screws and tighten them using a Phillips head screwdriver.

6. Connect the wires to the fan. Connect the black wire from the fan to the black wire from the house wiring. Connect the white wire from the fan to the white wire from the house wiring. Use wire nuts to secure the connections.

7. Install the cover plate. Place the cover plate over the fan and secure it with the screws.

8. Turn on the power to the bathroom fan. Once the fan is installed, turn on the power to the bathroom fan. The fan should now be working properly.

Tips

  • If you are not comfortable working with electricity, it is best to hire a qualified electrician to remove the old fan and install the new fan.
  • Make sure that the new fan is the same size as the old fan. If the new fan is too large or too small, it will not fit properly in the housing.
  • Be careful not to damage the housing when removing the old fan or installing the new fan.
