How to Repair a Leaking Bathroom Faucet Handle

A leaky bathroom faucet can be a real nuisance. Not only does it waste water and increase your water bill, but it can also be a constant annoyance. If you're dealing with a leaky faucet, don't despair. It's a relatively easy fix that you can do yourself with a few basic tools.

The first step is to determine the source of the leak. Is it coming from the handle, the spout, or the base of the faucet? Once you know where the leak is coming from, you can start to make repairs.

If the leak is coming from the handle:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
  2. Remove the handle by loosening the screw that holds it in place.
  3. Replace the washer that is located beneath the handle.
  4. Reassemble the handle and turn on the water supply.

If the leak is coming from the spout:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
  2. Remove the aerator, which is the small screen that is located at the end of the spout.
  3. Clean the aerator and replace it.
  4. Turn on the water supply.

If the leak is coming from the base of the faucet:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
  2. Loosen the nuts that hold the faucet in place.
  3. Remove the faucet and replace the O-rings that are located around the base of the faucet.
  4. Reinstall the faucet and tighten the nuts.
  5. Turn on the water supply.

Tips:

  • If you're not comfortable making these repairs yourself, you can call a plumber.
  • Before you start making any repairs, make sure that you have all of the necessary tools and parts.
  • Be sure to turn off the water supply before you start working on the faucet.
  • If you're replacing a washer, make sure that you get the right size washer. The washer should be the same size as the old washer.
  • If you're replacing O-rings, make sure that you get the right size O-rings. The O-rings should be the same size as the old O-rings.
