How To Take Out A Bathroom Sink And Vanity

Usually replacing a bathroom vanity is only a weekend project. But before you can install a new one, you must remove any old vanity or sink that is currently in place. Taking out a bathroom sink and vanity can be a fairly simple task with the right tools and preparation. Follow these procedures to safely remove your old bathroom vanity and sink:

Tools and materials needed:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Plumber's putty knife
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Bucket
  • Flashlight
  • Safety goggles

Safety first:

Before starting any work, turn off the water supply to the sink. If the vanity is attached to the wall, examine it to see if it is supported by any brackets or braces. If so, remove them before proceeding.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Disconnect the water supply lines: Using an adjustable wrench, disconnect the water supply lines from the faucet. There will be two lines, one for hot water and one for cold water.
  2. Remove the drain: Using a plumber's putty knife, carefully remove the old putty around the drain. Then, use a flathead screwdriver to unscrew the drain from the sink.
  3. Disconnect the faucet: Using a Phillips screwdriver, disconnect the faucet from the sink. There will be two nuts that need to be loosened.
  4. Remove the vanity top: If your vanity has a separate top, use a flathead screwdriver to remove the screws that secure it to the vanity. Then, carefully lift the top off the vanity.
  5. Remove the vanity base: If your vanity has a separate base, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws that secure it to the wall. Then, carefully lift the base off the wall.

Tips:

  • If you are having trouble removing the drain, try using a penetrating oil to loosen it.
  • Be careful not to damage the sink or vanity when removing it.
  • If you are not comfortable with any of the steps involved, it is best to call a plumber.

Once you complete these steps, your old bathroom sink and vanity will be removed and ready to be replaced. You can now install your new vanity and sink and enjoy your updated bathroom.
