Everything You Need to Know About Repairing a Dripping Delta Bathroom Faucet

A dripping faucet is a common plumbing problem that can waste water and increase your water bill. If you have a dripping Delta bathroom faucet, there are a few things you can do to fix it yourself. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to repair a dripping Delta bathroom faucet:

Gather the Tools You'll Need

Before you start, make sure you have all the tools you'll need for the job. You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, and a pair of pliers. You may also need a new faucet cartridge, which you can purchase at a home improvement store.

Turn Off the Water Supply

The first step is to turn off the water supply to the faucet. You can do this by turning off the angle stops under the sink. If you don't have angle stops, you'll need to turn off the main water supply to your home.

Remove the Faucet Handle

Once the water supply is turned off, you can remove the faucet handle. On most Delta faucets, the handle is held in place by a screw on the top of the handle. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the handle straight up to remove it.

Remove the Cartridge

Once the handle is removed, you'll need to remove the cartridge. The cartridge is located inside the faucet body. To remove it, use an adjustable wrench to loosen the bonnet nut. The bonnet nut is the large nut that is located at the base of the faucet body. Once the bonnet nut is loose, you can pull the cartridge straight out of the faucet body.

Inspect the Cartridge

Once the cartridge is removed, you can inspect it for damage. If the cartridge is damaged, you will need to replace it. You can purchase a new cartridge at a home improvement store.

Install the New Cartridge

If the cartridge is not damaged, you can reinstall it. To do this, simply insert the cartridge into the faucet body and tighten the bonnet nut. Make sure the cartridge is properly seated before you tighten the bonnet nut.

Reinstall the Faucet Handle

Once the cartridge is installed, you can reinstall the faucet handle. To do this, simply push the handle onto the faucet body and tighten the screw on the top of the handle.

Turn on the Water Supply

Once the faucet handle is reinstalled, you can turn on the water supply. Check for leaks and make sure the faucet is working properly.

Additional Tips

If you are not comfortable repairing the faucet yourself, you can call a plumber. Plumbers can quickly and easily repair a dripping faucet. Here are some additional tips for repairing a dripping faucet:

  • If the faucet is leaking from the base of the handle, the O-rings may need to be replaced.
  • If the faucet is leaking from the spout, the aerator may need to be cleaned or replaced.
  • If the faucet is leaking from the drain, the washer may need to be replaced.

By following these steps, you can repair a dripping Delta bathroom faucet yourself and save money on plumbing costs.
