Step 1: Gather Necessary Tools and Materials

Before starting, gather the following tools and materials: adjustable wrench, basin wrench, plumber's putty, Teflon tape, and a rag.

Step 2: Turn Off Water Supply

Locate the shut-off valves under the sink or behind the access panel. Turn off both the hot and cold water supply valves to prevent water flow during repairs.

Step 3: Remove Aerator (Optional)

If the faucet has an aerator, unscrew it using your hands or an adjustable wrench. This will provide better access to the faucet components.

Step 4: Loosen Faucet Mounting Nut

Using the adjustable wrench, locate the large mounting nut that secures the faucet to the sink. Loosen the nut by turning it counterclockwise, but do not remove it completely.

Step 5: Tighten Stabilizing Nut(s)

Under the sink, look for a stabilizing nut that is usually located beneath the mounting nut. Use a basin wrench to tighten this nut by turning it clockwise. If your faucet has two stabilizing nuts, tighten both of them.

Step 6: Re-Tighten Mounting Nut

Once the stabilizing nut(s) are tightened, re-tighten the mounting nut on top of the sink by turning it clockwise. Ensure it is snug, but avoid overtightening to prevent damage.

Step 7: Apply Plumber's Putty (Optional)

Before reinstalling the aerator, apply a small amount of plumber's putty around the base of the aerator threads. This will create a seal and prevent leaks.

Step 8: Reinstall Aerator

Screw the aerator back onto the faucet by hand-tightening it. Do not overtighten.

Step 9: Turn On Water Supply and Check for Leaks

Turn on the water supply valves and check for any leaks. If no leaks appear, your faucet is now secure.

If the faucet is severely loose, you may need to replace the O-rings or washers inside the faucet. Consult a plumber for assistance.
