How to Install a Delta Bathroom Faucet

Installing a new bathroom faucet is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few hours. By following these step-by-step instructions, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber.

Tools and Materials

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Basin wrench
  • Plumber's putty
  • Teflon tape
  • New faucet

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply

Locate the water supply valves under the sink and turn them off. Open the faucet to release any remaining water in the lines.

2. Remove the old faucet

Place a basin wrench over the nuts that hold the faucet in place and loosen them. Remove the nuts and lift the faucet out of the sink.

3. Clean the sink surface

Remove any old plumber's putty or debris from the sink surface where the new faucet will be installed.

4. Apply plumber's putty

Roll out a rope of plumber's putty and place it around the base of the new faucet. Smooth it out with your fingers to create a seal.

5. Install the faucet

Place the faucet over the holes in the sink and tighten the nuts by hand. Use the basin wrench to further tighten the nuts, but be careful not to overtighten.

6. Connect the water supply lines

Wrap the threads of the water supply lines with Teflon tape. Connect the hot water line to the red valve on the faucet and the cold water line to the blue valve. Tighten the connections with an adjustable wrench.

7. Turn on the water supply

Slowly turn on the water supply valves under the sink. Check for any leaks around the faucet or water supply lines. If you find any leaks, tighten the connections further.

Tips

  • If you are installing a faucet with a spray hose, be sure to connect the hose to the faucet before turning on the water supply.
  • If you are having trouble getting the faucet to seal properly, you can use a small amount of silicone caulk around the base of the faucet.
  • Once the faucet is installed, it is a good idea to run the water for a few minutes to flush out any debris from the lines.
By following these instructions, you can easily install a new bathroom faucet in your home. This will not only save you money, but it will also give you the satisfaction of completing a home improvement project yourself.
