How to Repair a Moen Single Handle Bathroom Faucet

Moen single-handle bathroom faucets are known for their durability and ease of use, but they can occasionally develop problems that require repair. If your Moen faucet is leaking, dripping, or not functioning properly, you can usually fix it yourself with a few simple tools and parts.

Before you begin any repairs, make sure you have the following tools and parts on hand:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Pliers
  • Replacement faucet cartridge
  • Faucet repair kit (may include O-rings, washers, and screws)

Once you have gathered your tools and parts, follow these steps to repair your Moen single-handle bathroom faucet:

1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.

There are two ways to do this:

  • If your faucet has a dedicated shut-off valve, turn the valve clockwise to turn off the water.
  • If your faucet does not have a dedicated shut-off valve, you will need to turn off the water supply to the entire bathroom. To do this, locate the main water shut-off valve for your house, which is usually located in the basement or crawl space.

Once you have turned off the water supply, open the faucet to release any residual water.

2. Remove the faucet handle.

To remove the faucet handle, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw that secures the handle to the faucet body. Once the screw is removed, you should be able to pull the handle straight off the faucet.

3. Remove the faucet cartridge.

To remove the faucet cartridge, use an adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut that secures the cartridge to the faucet body. Once the packing nut is loose, you should be able to pull the cartridge straight out of the faucet.

4. Inspect the faucet cartridge.

Once you have removed the cartridge, inspect it for damage. If the cartridge is cracked, corroded, or otherwise damaged, it will need to be replaced.

5. Install the new faucet cartridge.

To install the new faucet cartridge, insert it into the faucet body and tighten the packing nut. Make sure that the cartridge is properly seated before tightening the packing nut.

6. Reinstall the faucet handle.

To reinstall the faucet handle, simply slide it back onto the faucet body and secure it with the screw that you removed in step 2.

7. Turn on the water supply and test the faucet.

Turn on the water supply to the faucet and test the faucet to make sure that it is working properly. If the faucet is leaking or dripping, you may need to tighten the packing nut or adjust the faucet cartridge.

If you follow these steps, you should be able to repair your Moen single-handle bathroom faucet in no time.
